Dates for your diaries:

  • Opening of the green is Saturday March 16th at 2pm. Katie Boddis and Joel Basher, junior boy and girl of the year, with Ben Turner-Renshaw senior boy of the year will have the honour of opening our green. You are all welcome to come along to support them.

  • The junior section will re-start on Sunday 7th April 5.30 – 7.00. We will be moving back to one group, please note new start and finish time. Unfortunately, we have had to increase the membership fee from £15 to £20 as the club is struggling financially, I still think that £20 Is good value as we don’t charge subs, and we do supply refreshments. If you haven’t already paid your membership subscriptions for 2019 of £20 can you please bring it along when we start back.

  • We will be meeting up every Wednesday morning from30 – 12.00 during the school summer holidays from July 24th – August 28th

  • The season finishes on Sunday 29th September or sooner depending when we close the green

  • Our club presentation evening will be held at the Colwyn Bay Cricket Club on Saturday October 19th at 7pm.

Junior News - Welsh Junior Inter County Match Sunday 8th July versus Shropshire - venue Craig-y-Don Bowling Club.   Delighted to advise that Rhys, Richard & Zack have all been selected to play for the Home Team at Craig-y-Don - Match starts at 2.00pm

Congratulations also to Zack for his considerable achievement in the Welsh Junior Merit in reaching the final 16. His second round game  on Sunday 27th May played at Benllech was abandoned due to heavy rain, thunder & lightning. Last Sunday 1st July the match resumed - same venue and after beating his opponent Cerys Parry he lost his Quarter Final game to Matty Worden the eventual "Runner Up".

Many hanks to Ken for compiling this list of activities:-

Junior Academy Review May 2018

Club’s Open Cup Competitions

Several of our Senior Juniors made history this season by entering our Club’s first Open Cup Competition – The Whitehead Trophy Sun 15th April.

The Senior Junior Singles Competition played entirely on Sun 6th May and played in unison that day with The Lowry Cup.  Richard shone on the day by winning comfortably against Zack in the final.

Welsh Junior Matters

Last season we had six Welsh Juniors – Rhys, Richard, Hari, Emily, Adam & Lucy. This season only two of the original six remain – Rhys & Richard. Hari & Emily after moving to Grove Park are still in the squad though.

Zack missed out on selection last season being unavailable for the pre-season “Get Together”. He was also absent from this year’s held on Sunday 22nd April at Oval Llandudno. However, Dave Jones is aware of his progress in the League and after seeing Zack in action in the away friendly against Academi Llanfair – Sun 29th April – thereafter immediately invited Zack to join the Welsh Squad. To summarise we now have three “Full Welsh Juniors” - Rhys, Richard & Zack.

Welsh Junior Get Together – Oval Llandudno Sun 22nd April. Ben played well that day and similarly against Academi Llanfair. Dave Jones has already said he will be a future Welsh Junior – just now needs more League experience. Ben played his first League Match last Monday & will be playing again this Monday against Betws yn Rhos. Fievel was due to also attend the “Get Together” but was ill on the day. Dave Jones was very impressed by Fievel when he too played in the Academi Llanfair match – also regarding him as a future Welsh Junior – hence the League Registration etc. Fievel will now make his League debut in June.

Welsh Junior Practice Match Oval Llandudno – Sun 13th May. Originally only Rhys, Richard & Zack were due to play for the North West (Home Team) against the North East(Away Team). Ben was coming along to help score/measure etc. That morning Dave Jones rang me saying he’d been let down by several players and asked me to contact Ben & Fievel asking could they play too. They did and although not winning their games played very well. The Oval Llandudno is the home green for the first Welsh Junior Inter County Game on Sunday 10th June against Warwick & Worcester and both Rhys and Richard have been selected to play. Zack is away on holiday. His chance will come in July though. Full Team published on BGCBA Website. In fact that day including Hari & Emily we provided 7 players for the Home Team i.e. one third!

Junior Friendly away to Academi Llanfair – Sun 29th April

Considering none of our Juniors had ever played on that green to win the match 11-7( Agg 253-217) is quite remarkable. Six Senior Juniors took part winning results: Zack 21-10, Rhys 21-17, Fievel 21-13, Nick Rees 21-15. Richard lost 21-15 to Sion Bell & Ben lost 21-20 to Cerys Parry both good players. Five Juniors also played – Theo Lloyd Davies, Ruby Oldham, Tommy Edwards, Katie Boddis & Hari Williams Heather. Theo & Tommy both played twice - winning both their games. Before this season’s new Ysgol Glanwydden intake, both will be moved into the Senior Group and are stars of the future. Ruby & Katie both lost narrowly in their games played to 21 up. Hari also excelled winning 21-12 and losing his second game narrowly 11-10. He is another star of the future. Dave Jones – Welsh Selector was very impressed with our Juniors & really appreciates what we’re doing. We also, convincingly, won the home match last April.

4) Welsh Junior Merit – Sunday 27th May Benllech Bowling Club – 12noon.

Zack was our only representative this year as Rhys & Richard are away. Interestingly, this venue will be used as a Home Green for a later Welsh Junior Inter County Game and Dave Jones thought it would be good for our players to become familiar with the green. Zack came to terms with the green by winning his match by 21 to 18.

5) Colwyn & Llandudno & North Wales Coast Bowling Leagues

Our Juniors continue to excel in both Leagues, check the league tables and averages to see for yourselves. I have to say it’s the best I’ve ever seen them play & all fully deserve their Welsh Junior selection.

To all the Juniors at every level; you give the coaches massive pride and pleasure to see how you are developing under our guidance with your skill and behaviour...  and to the newer ones, look at how many PNHBC juniors have represented their country and think that they were at your level only a couple of years ago.
